Several examples of this ‘Indian Pheasant' screen panel are known, notably one at The Vyne, Hampshire, which is probably the one mentioned in Bradburn & France's bill to John Chute, 26 April 1765: ‘For fitting your piece of Mr Moores work and mounting do on a pillar and claw, carved and fluted & the back crimson lustring £2 5s 0d'. The same panel occurs on a firescreen supplied by Chippendale to Dumfries House in 1759, and the Earl of Dumfries also bought '12 Tapestry Chair Seats' from Moore in 1759. The design might have originated with Peter Parisot of the Fulham Tapestry Manufactory, which was bought by Thomas Moore in 1755. Moore set up his works in Chiswell Street, London, and is thought to have employed some of the best weavers from Parisot's defunct manufactory, rivalling Paul Sanders' Soho manufactory. Other known examples are: 1. Mulliner Collection Catalogue, fig. 188; 2. West Wycombe Park, illustrated Country Life Annual, 1977, p. 32; 3. Pair advertised by M. Harris & Sons, <i>London Antique Dealer's Fair Handbook, 1985, p. 42. The screen frame is not original, having been made by Dick Reid to accommodate the tapestry and fit it to the Harewood stand.
