By 1963 the Barbie doll, and its many clothing and accessories, sold well all over the country. Mattel produced a board game that year, named for Barbie but centered on career choices for girls. There may be a very small educational aspect to this game, as players collect cards marked with traits each of the eight possible career choices might posses. A teacher, for example, needed "patience" as a trait. Beyond this, however, only the career "astronaut" pointed towards the kind of non-traditional career to which Barbie eventually aspired.
