This item is a donation from Carol Shaw, the first recorded female video game designer. At the University of California, Berkeley, she earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1977, and later completed a master's degree in Computer Science. She joined Atari in 1978 as a Microprocessor Software Engineer, where she designed games for the Atari 2600, including Polo (unreleased), 3-D Tic-Tac-Toe, Video Checkers, Othello (with Ed Logg), and Super Breakout (with Nick Turner). She joined Activision in 1982, where she programmed her best-known game, River Raid.
