Born in Havana, Salinas emigrated to the United States in 1959 where he eventually settled in Miami in 1961. He also received a degree in Architecture from Kent State University in Ohio and spent many years in Spain where he studied alongside Joan Miró and Antoni Tapiés. He has also done several poetry collaborations. For example, he produced a book with Jose Angel Valente based on the Hebrew alphabet titled “Three Lessons of Darkness” which won the National Prize in Poetry in 1980. Currently, he has a studio in Miami and teaches at Miami Dade College.
