Maria José Souza Guedes has been a piano teacher at Porto Music Conservatory since 1982 since when she has trained many young pianists, whose merit has been recognised in national and international competitions. A pupil of Ernestina Silva Monteiro and Fernanda Wandschneider, she studied in Vienna under the guidance of Professor Hans Graf. She has performed at many concerts in Portugal and abroad, playing solo, with orchestra and chamber music at important concert halls and renowned festivals. She recorded 7 CDs, three solo and four in duet with Luís Meireles. She was a jury member of the IV International Carlo Soliva Music Competition (Italy 1990), the XVII Porto International Piano Competition (2000), the III Maria Cristina Lino Pimentel Competition (Torres Vedras 2003), III International Gnessin Competition, (2003) and the IV International Bitola Inter-Fest Competition in Macedonia (2004).
