The Jacquard loom is named for its French inventor Joseph Marie Jacquard, who appeared in public in 1804 in Lyon. The innovation of the loom is the substitution of the heddles for needle system so that each of the warp threads can be raised or not individually. The shed of the warp threads is arranged a punch card system which determine the position of each of the threads. This system together with the combination of the colors of the threads of the warp and weft can be drawings, which are programmed in the same fabric-making process.
