    FOR FIRST PUBLICATION IN MORNING PAPERS OF MONDAY 25TH JULY 1966 THE HUGH GORDON LAYS BP'S FIRST PIPELINE ERF JULY 1966 BRITISH PETROLEUM'S ACTIVITIES IN THE NORTH SEA HAVE ACCELERATED TO THE EXTENT WHERE THREE NEW DRILLING OPERATIONS WILL BEGIN THIS WEEK, AND THE PIPELINE WHICH WILL BRING THE GAS ASHORE IS ALREADY BEING. THE WORLD'S LARGEST PIPELAYING BARGE HUGH W. GORDON IS LAYING THE 45 MILES OF 16 INCH PIPE TO BP'S GAS FIELD FROM THE COMPANY'S SHORE TERMINAL AT EASINGTON IN YORKSHIRE. IN GOOD WEATHER THE PIPE CAN BE LAID AT TEN FEET A MINUTE. A SECOND BARGE FOLLOWS THE HUGH GORDON AND BURY THE PIPELINE TO ENSURE THAT IT DOES NOT INTERFERE WITH SHIPPING OR FISHING OPERATIONS. IT MAY WELL BE POSSIBLE TO BRING SOME GAS ASHORE BY THE END OF THE YEAR, BUT AT LEAST 50 MILLION CUBIC FEET DAILY WILL BE AVAILABLE AND SUPPLIED BY 1ST JULY 1967 FOR BRITAIN'S HOMES AND FACTORIES.
