This is a so-called bizarre silk, on which individual different, often oriental motifs are combined without any significant connection. The patterns are characterized by parallel, usually diagonal lines and powerful dynamics. They probably arise from the influence of East Asian art, which comes to Europe with the beginning of the 17th century. Particularly popular are bizarre silks between 1690 and 1720 in France.
