BRITAIN'S TWO-SLIPWAY GIANT ALMOST READY FOR LAUNCHING BY QUEEN.

THE LARGEST VESSEL EVER BUILT IN EUROPE, BRITAIN'S FIRST 100,000 TON TANKER, TO BE NAMED "BRITISH ADMIRAL" WILL BE LAUNCHED ON MARCH 17TH BY THE QUEEN.
THE HUGE TANKER IS BEING BUILT FOR BRITISH PETROLEUM AT THE VICKERS-ARMSTRONG YARD AT BARROW-IN-FURNESS, AND IS NOW NEARING COMPLETION. IT IS THE FIRST OF TWO 100,000 TON DEADWEIGHT TANKERS BEING BUILT FOR THE B.P. TANKER COMPANY - THE SECOND IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT SWAN HUNTER AND WIGHAM RICHARDSON YARD ON THE TYNE.
SO GREAT IS THE SIZE OF THE NEW TANKER - IT WILL BE 917 FT 6 INCHES LONG AND 180 FT IN BREADTH - THAT TWO BERTHS, EACH 100 FT WIDE WERE RE-BUILT INTO A SINGLE BERTH TO ACCOMMODATE THE VESSEL. ALL THE MACHINERY WILL BE INSTALLED COMPLETE PRIOR TO THE LAUNCHING AND IT WILL BE THE GREATEST-EVER LAUNCHING WEIGHT AT BARROW. AFTER IT ENTERS THE WATER, ONLY A FEW WEEKS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PREPARE THE "BRITISH ADMIRAL" FOR FINAL TRIALS.
