The oil on canvas, signed on the lower left by Pietro Galter, shows one of the most monumental and peculiar views of Venice: Punta della Dogana, which divides the Grand Canal from the part of Giudecca. Behind the Dogana tower, the monumental church of Santa Maria della Salute dominates the scene, while the lagoon rippled by light waves, which swell in the foreground, is enlivened by the presence of several sails and a gondola with a gondolier wearing a white shirt. The sea surface broken by the reflections of boats and monuments is captured at the time of twilight, as the light of the sunset under the pink clouds of the sky highlights.
