Portrait of Helena Modjeska by Tadeusz Ajdukiewicz. In 1879, Helena Modjeska took part in a ball in Kraków during which the idea of establishing the Polish National Museum was formulated. During the ball, the painter Ajdukiewicz, enchanted by the actress's beauty and by her gown, decided to paint the portrait that was later given as a gift to the new museum.
