Andean condor

The Andean condor, as the name suggests, is a typical bird of the Pacific side of South America. Its wingspan reaches up to 3 meters and it has been almost driven to extinction because in the past it was thought to be a predator. The condor is instead a scavenger and feeds mainly on carcasses of large animals. Due to this feeding specialization, the neck and head of condors are devoid of feathers, so that they can be introduced into dead bodies without dirty themselves too much.
