Cadel Evans began his cycling career on a mountain bike. He rode this Cannondale CAAD 4 hard tail bike in his World Cup victories in the cross-country category in 1998 and 1999.
Physiological tests while Evans was a scholarship holder at the Australian Institute of Sport revealed that he had the rare combination of an unusually high lung volume, and the capacity to absorb more oxygen from each breath than 99.9 percent of the population.
