International Fine Arts Council; Cohen, Harry. [Carta] 1956 Sept. 19,
New York, NY [para] Candido Portinari, Rio de Janeiro, RJ. [inglês][datilografado]
Dear Mr. Portinari:
We are enclosing for you immediate use, the WHO’S WHO IN ART Questionairre sent to us from the people who publish this book on international artists in
London, so that you may be included in the next edition, as one of the artists we represent for commissions in the U.S. and elsewhere out of your native land.
When you have filled it out, as per instructions, will you then send it directly to them, and send a copy of it to us, for our office record. This came to you through us, because of your publicity in our 1956 Bulletin. We should also like to know from you what reaction there was to that Bulletin in Brazil, and would appreciate your letter informing us.
We are planning now our 1957 Gold Medal Bulletin which will be issued early in 1957. For our column section titled: THE ARTIST SPEAKS will you please contribute to the Bulletin a short, sharp essay, that we may publish; you may write it in Spanish. Then you may indicate to us in your letter whether you wish us to translate it or to publish it in Spanish. We will respect your wishes. We would like to have your viewpoint on art abroad, on art in your native land, on conditions generally in the art world, or on your personal philosophy and personal life. We will not limit you on the amount of words. But since your country is so rich culturally and industrially, we very much want you as the artist honored by us last year to comment in such a way that your point of view is clearly understood.
If you will send us photographs of your most recent works, and commissions, giving all the pertinent details, size, owner, medium, clearly written on the back of each photo, we will publish the same. It is through our publications that we endeavor to abtain commissions abroad for the artists we find worthy of such representation and promotion as we give.
I trust I shall hear from you promptly, and till then, extend with all sincerity my kindest wishes to you and your family.
Most faithfully,
HARRY COHEN, M.D.
President in the
U.S.
