The arrangement of rocks in this painting is in the style of Wang Meng. But Lu Zhi's fine brushstrokes and the use of pleasant colours distinguish him from Wang Meng. Lu Zhi incorporated the fine brushwork into the tradition of literati landscape painting. On the other hand, the composition of the picture with piling mountains was modelled after the style of his teacher Wen Zhengming (1470 - 1559).

- History of Donation: The Xubaizhai Gallery of Chinese Art was established in 1992, specifically for exhibiting the collection that donated to the Hong Kong Museum of Art by the famous connoisseur and collector of Chinese calligraphy and paintings, Mr Low Chuck Tiew (Liu Zuochou) in 1989.
- Hermit: Lu Zhi
- Artist's Biography: Lu Zhi belonged to the Wu School of painting and was a student of Wen Zhengming (1470 - 1559). His inscription stated that this painting was in the style of the 14th century artist Wang Meng (1308 - 1385).
- About Wang Meng: Wang Meng, also known as "Huanghe Shanqiao", was one of the "Four Masters of the Yuan Dynasty". He used both the "unraveling rope texture stroke" and the "ox-tail texture stroke" to paint rocks and mountains. The combination of these two types of strokes creates the sense of coherence and movement of undulating mountains. He also used a compact composition to depict the lofty mountains.
