One of the 3m long electrostatic septum. The septum itself consisted of 0.15mm thick molybdenum wires with a 1.5mm pitch. Its special feature is a precisely aligned plane of thin wires. The wires are individually held taut across the aperture where the protons pass by means of springs. Each of the two SPS extraction systems contained four of these electrostatic septa.
