To'i. Hafted adze. Dark basalt ofa'i (stone) is worked into a Fao'a, triangular in section. The Fao'a has flaked sides with a large bevel and cutting edge which is chipped. Its blade is flat and smooth. The Fao'a is lashed securely to a carved 'Ä€'auna (wooden haft) with braided nape (coconut sennit). A small piece of huru (coconut husk fibre) is wedged in between the stone and the sennit. The 'Ä€'auna has a pronounced triangular heel, capped at its end, and a long cylindrical to'o (shaft) for grip.
