The Dutch choreographer Hans van Manen created with 'The Old Man and Me' (1996) his third duet for NDT 3, after 'Evergreens' (1991), and 'Different Partners' (1993).

'The Old Man and Me', named after a song by blues rock singer J.J. Cale, humorously showed Sabine Kupferberg trying to blow some life into her grumpy “old man” (Gérard Lemaître). It is a ballet with numerous joyful and quirky nuances at the beginning, but laced at the end with the deep feelings of two people who share their common memories.
