This detached fresco comes from a cycle of portraits of famous men and women painted in 1449-50 in the family villa, Villa Carducci in Legnaia. Filippo Scolari (1369-1426) was known as Pippo Spano from Ispàn (Magistrate), a title used in an area where the famous Florentine leader was in the service of Hungary.
