    MILLION POUNDS WORTH OF AIRCRAFT FOR FAR EAST. VA. The first of 12 Short Solent flying-boats for use on the B.O.A.C. Far East route is expected to be delivered in the near future. The aircraft are for use on the Far East extension when it commences, and will fly on to Hong Kong and Shanghai. The 12 flying-boats, which represent an order of £1,000,000, are being buiit at Shorts factory at Rochester, whare the photographs were taken. The Short Solent, a high performance flying-boat suitable for operation on long-range overseas air routes, is a 30 seat passenger craft fitted with four engines. Photo shows- Technicians at work inside the hull of one of the vessels. This picture gives an impression of the large interior of the Short Solent. Fox October 3rd, 1946. 347842.
