Clark & Sowdon produced a strategy-style race game in the late 19th century called "The Scout." A two-player game, one player takes the scout playing piece, the other player has three soldier pieces. With careful planning, the scout player will reach his distination without being "caught" by a soldier. Such war and battle-themed games appealed especially to young boys.
