Jack Straws are the precursor game to pick-up sticks. Jack Straws were generally shaped like wooden tools and ladders, etc. Some editions had painted tools inside. A McLoughlin set from 1899 has plain wood tools but the inside box cover carries a special greeting: "Merry Christmas to Russell from Aunt Jeanie 1899."
