My dear Mr. Portinari:
You undoubtedly have heard o four Latin American Fair which is schedule to open January 16, 1942. This event has been conceived with a view to familiarizing our public with the natural, artistic, and industrial production of our Good Neighbors to the South. On account of it, the exhibit will house also an important art gallery in which we will show a group of outstanding canvases from each one of the Republics, chosen by their Governments, or under Government supervision, and informative of their lives and artistic conceptions.
The Brazilian Government has just advised us that they will contribute fifteen pictures and a number of sculptures to our gallery. However, besides this, we would like to have one or two of your own paintings, as our exhibit would certainly not be complete without them.
We sincerely trust that you will be able to favorably consider this request on account of the political and economic purpose of our Show, and looking forward to hearing from you, we are
Yours very truly,
