Model boots were made to show off contemporary styles and the skill of the shoemaker or manufacturer. They were often displayed at international exhibitions.

This elegant top boot is made of leather and patent leather in two contrasting colours, with a short heel and fashionable pointed toe. The cloth strap at the top was essential in helping to put on and remove the boot. Long boots were by this time generally used only for formal occasions, sporting activities or riding.
