Barbu Știrbei (1799-1869) came from the Bibescu and Știrbey families, descendants of Constantin Brâncoveanu. He was ruler of Wallachia (1849-1856) at a time when the Romanian Lands were caught up in the conflict between the Russians and the Ottomans.
