Excerpt from Coimbra

The author portrayed a part of his hometown, using a rich palette of light colors, in an intense and vibrant light.
Through an aerial perspective, he reproduces an architectural complex of "Alta Coimbrã" that irregularly descends to the river Mondego.
The waters of the river lurk between the roofs, and on the opposite river bank there is another hill, a verdant one, which rises and extends beyond the limits of the canvas.
The roofs and chimneys of the whitewashed houses are grouped along the streets.
A steaming chimney indicates the season when the register was made. On the other hand, the light coming from the right side still suggests a dawn.
