Landscape with Cornfields

Salomon van Ruysdael1638

Hallwyl Museum

Hallwyl Museum
Stockholm, Sweden

Landscape with Cornfields is dominated by the grey mass of clouds towering lightly above a resting farmer, small in comparison to nature itself. A low horizon emphasizes the vastness of the leaden sky, which is quite typical of both Ruysdael´s and van Goyen´s paintings in the 1630´s and 1640´s. The painting is signed S.VR. 1638 in the left corner
