Yellow dyer rainfrog

During an expedition in Western Panama in May 2010, a team from the Senckenberg Research Institute in Frankfurt heard the mating calls of male rain frogs. The calls were clearly different from those of other Panamanian frog species and the researchers were soon convinced that they had found a new species! After a tedious search, they finally held the little yellow frog in their hands and discovered a particular trait: After touching the animal, the researchers’ fingers stained bright yellow. To date, the underlying reason for this staining remains a mystery. All that is known is that the dye is not toxic.
