In 1737 a "Streitkirche" (a disputed church) was built in Kronberg as part of the then territorial sovereign´s recatholization plan for the city - to the discontent of the Protestant inhabitants. The Corpus Evangelicorum of the Permanent Imperial Diet was activated and went before the Imperial High Court where it was decided that the Baroque style building should be converted into a civil building. After the demolition of the gabled tower and further disputes, it was put up for auction several times and was finally sold in 1887 for 12,600 marks to the apothecary Julius Neubronner. He used the Streitkirche as his residence and place of business. He housed his pigeons on the roof.
