Board game:Jeu de Singes (Monkey Game)

The game Snakes and Ladders originated in ancient India, along with games such as Pachisi (Parcheesi) and like that game is sill played and popular in contemporary times. British colonists brought the game back to England and it became popular there during the Victorian period. In 1943 Milton Bradley Company produced an American version called Chutes and Ladders, replacing the snakes with friendlier slides or chutes. The game's play taught moral behavior. Players landing on a bad deed square are sent back along a chute or a snake, while players who land on a good deed are sent up a ladder towards the finish of the game. An unknown French manufacturer produced yet another variant, Jeu de Singes (Monkey Game) around the turn of the 20th century. Mischievous monkeys may send a player back, but ladders are still available to boost her forward. The ancient game remains basically unchanged, except in imagery, since it first appeared.
