The bowl, with a slightly rounded edge, has a typical Persian ceramic decoration called “Sari” type, a name that derives from the town of Sari near the Caspian Sea, where this type of majolica was found in large quantities. The elaborate artifact is brightly and finely adorned with a large feathered bird with a plume and closed tail, placed within a circle of flowers, daisies or chrysanthemums, spaced out with smaller floral bunches. The coloring was made with red, green and black clays on a white engobe, then covered with lead-bearing glass to make it waterproof. Generally, this decoration on this type of majolica is rather hasty, while in this example it is extremely accurate, as it is also demonstrated by the white beading, which underlines the salient points of the style and increases its expressive happiness, interpreting the animal world in terms of imagination and vivacity.
