Victorian Louis Whyte went to Hawaii in 1919, where he bought this board (and three others) and was taught to surf by legendary Islander Duke Kahanamoku. Returning to his home in Geelong, Whyte took to the waves with friends around Lorne from 1920 - the first known surfers on what is now known as the Surf Coast.
