Surulere is a residential and commercial suburb located on the Mainland of Lagos, to the west of the its lagoon. The area is an important transport node as it connects the rest of the Mainland with Lagos Island and Victoria Island, and thus enjoys the advantage of serving as a mid-point of sorts. During the rapid urbanisation of Lagos in the 70s and 80s, families from different regions of Nigeria settled in Surulere. Thus, for some time, Surulere was recognised as the ideal middle-class settlement and as one of the most exclusive areas on Mainland Lagos.
