Pan Tianshou learned paintings from Wu Changshuo in his early years. He pursed studying from the traditional and forming his own style. Since the foundation of new China, Pan Tianshou entered a peak period of his own creations. On one hand, he learned from famous phrase and words used as inspiration; on the other hand, he combined such inspiration with his real life experience, creating poetic ideas from the ordinary and transforming them into moving visual images, thus forming his own unique painting theme. This painting was created by Pan Tianshou after the foundation of new China, and it reflects the artist’s style during his peak time. The idea of this painting is new and different, combining landscape and flowers together, which is enlightened from sketching, avoiding dullness and presenting a new look. The artist adopted the perspective of one corner of the brook water, looking at the overall image from one small point of view, deep and quiet, forming an artistic conception of "running water and booming flowers with no persons around” among cliffs and rocks. The composition of this painting breaks normal routines, "producing dangers" and "breaking risks", not affected by the frame limit and paying attention to echo of overall style. The painter used ink briefly but with infinite meanings, showing ethereal mood among complexities, coordinating the relationship between the visual and actual as well as internal and external structures.
