Walter Elmer Schofield was a member of the group of painters who have come to be called the New Hope Circle. He met and courted an English Woman, Muriel Redmayne, on her visit to Philadelphia with her parents and married her in October 1897. After living in Pennsylvania for some time, they moved to England around the turn of the century. Schofield explored the picturesque villages and countryside of Cornwall, interpreting it in the New Hope Impressionist style.
