A display of clover roots colonised by a fungus

The Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum
London, United Kingdom

These clover roots, Trifolium repens, are colonised by a fungus called Endogone, which provides them with essential nutrients. In return, the fungus gets sugars that the plant produces from photosynthesis. This relationship between the plant and fungus is therefore mutually beneficial.

This exhibit appeared in the Our Broken Planet display at the Natural History Museum in London from 2021 to 2022.
