A. Dürer's House

Nuremberg's image in the last third of the 19th century bore the imprint of the painters Lorenz and Paul Ritter. With consumate skill, they depicted the public squares and buildings of the city, employing scrupulously accurate historical details to evoke the glorious past of the former free imperial city. This sheet comes from the volume "Picturesque Views from Nuremberg by L. Ritter". The very title indicates that Ritter regarded Nuremberg's nooks and crannies as "picturesque" and depicted them accordingly. Faithful reproduction had long since become the responsibility of photography.
