London, United Kingdom

John Gay's photograph shows a group of City workers, resting in a narrow roadway that gives a view towards St Paul's Cathedral. The cathedral was built between 1675 and 1710 to designs by Sir Christopher Wren. The previous cathedral on this site was severely damaged by the Great Fire of London in 1666. The remains were demolished and a new St Paul's built.
