On 20 May 2021, a health worker prepares to administer COVID-19 vaccine at a vaccination centre in Paz Flor mall in Luanda, Angola.
As Angola’s rollout of COVID-19 vaccines ramps up, the vibrant space in the nation’s capital has been converted to serve up life-saving vaccines. Paz Flor is one of 21 major vaccination hubs spread across Angola’s 18 provinces that bring crucial COVID-19 vaccination services together under one roof.
As of early July 2021, Angola had administered around 1.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses, with over 1.3 million vaccines received through the COVAX facility.
COVAX, the vaccines pillar of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, aims to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines and to guarantee fair and equitable access to vaccines for every country in the world. COVAX is co-led by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and WHO working in partnership with developed and developing country vaccine manufacturers, UNICEF, the World Bank, and others.
