The Lowry

The Lowry
Salford, United Kingdom

Lowry's early landscapes often depict the countryside within walking distance of his home in Pendlebury, or the area around Lytham St Anne's which he knew well from family holidays. In the 1930s he began to paint his 'lonely landscapes' - empty, often desolate views of hills and lakes, sometimes based on thelandscape of Cumbria, but imagined scenes, rarely depicting specific sites.
