A Large Tree with Two Horses

Inscription: The large tree was painted in Nanjing, my last impression of the former capital. It has already been four years; I kept the work in a suitcase for a time. I began to finish it the night before New Year’s Eve in 1938, but I could not bear the feeling of a nation’s rise and fall. Beihong wrote this on Village Road in Hong Kong. For my beloved wife, Jingwen, to keep.
