Liu Dawei was born in 1945 in Zhucheng, Shandong Province. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts of Inner Mongolia Normal University in 1968. In 1980, he graduated from the Graduate School of Chinese Painting of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in figure painting. He is currently the chairman of the Chinese Artists Association, professor and director of the Art Department of the PLA Academy of Art, and vice chairman of the Chinese Federation of Artists. His works have participated in many major domestic exhibitions and won awards, and have been exhibited in Japan, Britain, the United States, Germany, France, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other countries and regions. The main works are Briat Wedding, Eagle, Lion, Zhang Huazhuang's New Music, People's Public Servants and so on. Among them, "A Long Way to Go" was presented to Japanese leaders as a national gift by Jiang Zemin during his visit to Japan in 1992. He has published "Freehand Figure Painting Techniques", "Liu Dawei Sketches", "Liu Dawei Works Collection", "Liu Dawei Essays Collection", "Liu Dawei Watercolor Painting Works", "Epic and Pastoral Songs - Liu Dawei Works Collection" and so on.
