Mumbai, India

This clay model is of a ‘Patangbaz’ or an expert kite-flyer, dressed in traditional north Indian costume, holding a colourful kite and a reel of thread to control its movement. In the 19th & early 20th century, under the British rule, many such clay models were made to document Indian culture and lifestyle in great detail. The Museum has the largest such collection in India.
