John Glover was an Australian artist, based near Stawell in Western Victoria, Australia. He was an adventurous traveller and in 1987 went on a trip to Nepal, making art as he travelled. About this work he stated: 'Here is a drawing that has taxed all my skills and patience. It depicts a moment in time in this fascinating, strange city. In another moment, most things would have been different and so it will be, for all time. Some mornings, it would be quite foggy, but when the sun broke through, it would be a riot of colour and then to complement all this, was the sheer noise of the place. A constant babble. In doing the original painting, I attempted to capture all this. A pencil drawing is a more difficult proposition. In doing this drawing, I had a lot more time to reflect on my visit to Nepal. I relived some of the magic I experienced when I was there in 1987. It is my sincere hope that all the paintings and drawings here may convey to you, the joy and satisfaction I get from being an artist.’ (John Glover, 2001)
