As the First World War went on the supplies in Germany dwindled. The Entente’s blockade of the German ports was successful. In the second half of the war it was not uncommon to find clothes and accessories made of paper. This pair of braces are made of twined paper and fake leather.
The braces were a gift 1920 to Wilhelmina von Hallwyl from her cousin’s daughter Ms Sigrid Holtzmann, née Voigts-Rhetz.
