A Parsi Sari

A prime exemplar of the Chinese origins of gara embriodery, this sari, produced for the Indian Parsi market, features—rendered in white silk embroidery against a purple ground—a continuous and repeating design of birds among leafing vines, set within a more densely embroidered border band containing a design of alternating peacocks and camelias, interspersed with other blossoms. The border band continues along three sides of the pallu, as well as the entirety of the fall (bottom facing end) of the sari .
