BRITISH SHIPBUILDERS V. THE U-BOATS
28.2.1941.
As the war proceeds it becomes apparent - as Hitler himself has proclaimed in his latest harrangue - that the main hopes of the Nazis are centred in an intensification of the U-boat attacks on our life lines across the seas, particularly from America, the "Arsenal of Democracy". More than ever, therefore, is Britain dependent upon the magnificent efforts of her shipbuilders to back up the heroic work of the Royal Navy by replacing losses of merchantmen, and it is comforting to know that our rate of production at the present time is already higher than the corresponding figures for 1915 and 1916 in the last war.
This is one of a new series taken at a British shipyard; and shows: -
1. Two of Britain's answers to the U-boats - new merchantment at a British shipyard. The one on the left is in a 10% stage of completion; the other is ready for launching.
FOR FIRST PUBLICATION FRIDAY'S EVENINGS, FEBRUARY. 28th.
