Saxony, Royal Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, 1729-1730
Porcelain; multicolour overglaze painting, gilding.
No GDM-220-I
The plate was a part of the famous «Yellow Lion» service, which, as legend has it, was the first tableware service manufactured in Saxony. The plate also has an outstanding historical value, as it is marked with an inventory number of the Japanese Palace of Augustus II the Strong, Elector of Saxony, who contributed greatly to the creation of the first European porcelain. Until 1941 the plate was exhibited in the Chinese Gallery, which hosted «Chinoiserie» items along with authentic masterpieces from the Far East. Today the plate is displayed during thematic exhibitions.
