According to the note on the reverse, the performance dates to December 1952, which would suggest that the dancer is Nakamura Utaemon VI, performing at the Minami-za Theatre in Kyoto. However, because Onoe Baikō VII also performed the role around the same period, his appearance cannot be ruled out entirely. Both Utaemon VI and Baikō VII are celebrated as leading onnagata of twentieth-century kabuki.
