Stone tower houses characterize the highlands urban fabric.In the mountain villages they have up to five floors and each floor is dedicated to a particular function. In such desolate areas, this tendency towards verticality in architecture could be interpreted as a defense strategy as well as a smart solution for saving soil for agriculture.
